TWAS-CAS Fellowships for Visiting Scholars


Biology Scholarship Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:

be a maximum age of 55 years on December 31, year of application;
become citizens of developing countries (other than China);
holds a PhD in natural sciences and regular research assignment with at least five years of postdoctoral research experience;
received at the CAS-registered institutions participating in the scheme and provide an official acceptance letter from host institution (see sample Acceptance Letter, page 3) to this effect, and
provide evidence of proficiency in English or Chinese.

The Biology Scholarship deadline for receipt of applications is 31 August each year.

Cranfield University PhD Studentship Biology Scholarship


This Biology Scholarship project aims to identify the critical aspects of behavior control layer and property and to allow prediction of endurance in the service layer. More specifically it will focus on the definition of failure criteria for the creation and growth of cracks, and the identification of failure mechanisms in static and cyclic load conditions.

This
Biology Scholarship research would both experimental and theoretical model development. Experimental work will combine both diagnostic tests and novel materials was established with the support of state-of-the-art Digital Image Correlation system. The successful applicant will have access to finite element modeling for the development of numerical models of the substrate / coating interaction.

This
Biology Scholarship study will be among the first systematic study into the factors controlling the resistance of coating and therefore there are significant opportunities for successful applicants to achieve publication success. This position will be based on the campus of Cranfield University in Bedfordshire, with a period seconded to the sponsoring organization to interact with researchers and use of equipment at their locations in Newcastle.

PhD position Biology Scholarship in Experimental High-Energy Heavy-Ion Physics


The Biology Scholarship ERC-Starting Research Group QGP-ALICE at Utrecht University has an opening for a PhD position in Experimental High-Energy Heavy-Ion Physics. The group is strongly involved in Heavy-Flavour Physics in the ALICE experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

Requirements

Biology Scholarship Applicants need to have a Master's Degree or equivalent in Physics or Sciences and have a strong interest in studying fundamental properties of nature. Experience in experimental physics or high-energy/nuclear physics and programming skills in C++ are of advantage.

Conditions of Employment

When fulfilling a PhD position at the FOM foundation, you will get the status of junior scientist.

You will have an employee status and can participate in all the employee benefits FOM offers. You will get a contract for 4 years. Your salary will be up to a maximum of 2,610 euro gross per month.The salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33%.

You are supposed to have a thesis finished at the end of your four year term with FOM.

A training programme is part of the agreement. You and your supervisor will make up a plan for the additional education and supervising that you specifically need. This plan also defines which teaching activities you will be responsible (up to a maximum of 10% of your time).
